Are you looking to sell your home soon? If so, you need to do what is necessary to impress any potential home buyers. Follow our tips below to ensure your home doesn’t stay on the market for very long.
#1: Make an excellent first impression
Before your visitors get to your front door, ensure they have an excellent first impression of your property. Mow the lawn, power wash your driveway, and add a fresh lick of bright and colourful paint to your fencing, door, and exterior walls.
#2: Clean everything
Dust down your cabinets, vacuum your floors, and make every aspect of your home sparkle. Use these house cleaning tips to make your home shine.
#3: Eliminate any bad smells
Damp dog? Burnt food? Ensure these and any other bad smells are eliminated long before your visitors arrive. Open your windows to air out your house, light a few fragrant candles, and even add a few vases of flowers around your home to bring in the welcoming scent of nature.
#4: Remove any clutter
Get rid of or sell anything you no longer need to create more space in your home and pay for storage for any larger items you will be taking to your new house. When your visitors arrive, they will then be able to get a better impression of your home when they see how much space there is for their own items.
#5: Remove personal items
Pictures of the family? Kids artwork on the fridge? Shelves piled high with collectable items? Remove them, as your visitors want to envision themselves living in your property, without your personal items distracting them from their ideas.
#6: Bring in more light
A dark and dreary home isn’t very inviting, so open your curtains wide, trim your outdoor bushes, and use these ideas to create more light in your home.
#7: Get on top of repairs
Not only will you maximise your home’s value if you do, but you will also have less to deter your visitors during your home showing. So, mend those creaky floorboards, oil any squeaky doors, and fix anything that could be considered a health and safety nightmare.
#8: Send the kids to a childminder
We’re sure your children are lovely individuals, but you don’t want them getting in the way of your visitors. The last thing you want is for them to leave toys on the stairs or for them to pester your visitors with questions, so have a childminder in place to look after them.
#9: Clear out your closets
Storage space is a big selling point for home buyers, so clear out your closets (and any other areas of storage), so your visitors get an idea of the space available for their belongings.
#10: Draw attention to focal points
If your home has any special features, you want to draw your visitor’s eyes to them. So, you might add a potted plant on your mantel to draw attention to your fireplace, for example, and you might add a brightly coloured cushion to a window seat. Follow these examples for any of your home’s special features.
