A Quick and Useful Guide To Curb Appeal

Many people decide to work on their curb appeal when they think of selling their home – however, there’s never a bad time to work on this aspect of your home. Not only will it increase the value of your home, it’ll look far more appealing when you return home. If you are planning on selling your home, then the curb appeal is the first impression many potential buyers will get of the place. Whether they know it or not, this can really set the tone for how they feel about the house as they view it.

Improving your curb appeal doesn’t have to be hard, though. Here’s a quick and useful guide to curb appeal that can help anybody:

  1. Remember – It’s All Subconscious

The first thing to note is that this is all subconscious. You may need to do things that you think viewers would never think about anyway – but that’s because they would never consciously think about it. Subconsciously, they are paying attention. Washing your windows and paying attention to the minor details may seem extreme, but it does make a difference.

  1. Clean Up – Even Your Neighbour

Cleaning up is the most simple thing you can do for your curb appeal. Wash your windows, your car – and even your neighbour’s car! Don’t trust the people viewing the house to use their imaginations in the way you want them to.

  1. Update Your Cladding

Updating your wall cladding can give your home a brand new look. If it has been a while since it was done, new cladding could seriously update the exterior and make the home more desirable. It’s not always cheap or fast, but this could be one of the most valuable changes you make.

  1. Make Repairs

If there are repairs you know you need to make, don’t ignore them! Make them now, especially if you think you’ll be showing your home soon. Make sure the roof is intact, that there aren’t any holes in the exterior or bits that look messy, and ensure everything is safe and secure.

  1. Paint Your Door

Painting your door a bright colour can look so much more inviting and interesting. Pastel colours can look great, and it’s a really quick fix. You could also update your hardware.

  1. Create A Welcoming Entryway

Alongside painting your door, work on creating a more welcoming entryway. Add plants, add pretty door numbers, and make sure the walkway is safe and attractive looking.

  1. Light It Up

Finally, make sure your exterior is sufficiently lit. Not only does this look better at night time, it’s so much safer. Nobody wants to arrive home in the pitch black dark! Adding lighting may not seem important if you’re showing people around in the day, but it’s not uncommon for people to drive through the streets they are thinking of moving to at night time to see how it looks then.

Your curb appeal can make the difference between a quick sale and having your home on the market for a long time. Don’t ignore it!
