Creative Ways To Fill The Space In A Large Garden

Posted October 8, 2018 by Sue Prichard

Finding a good garden space is harder than ever and a lot of people end up with a tiny space that they struggle to do anything with, but what if you have the opposite problem? Having a big garden doesn’t really sound like something to complain about, but if you’re not a keen gardener it can be difficult to work out what to do with it. If you’re struggling to decide what to do with your large garden, try some of these great ideas.

Grow Some Vegetables

The stuff you get from the supermarket just doesn’t compare to freshly grown vegetables from your own garden so if you’ve got the space, why not try planting some of your own food? It’ll save you a lot of money, taste better and it’s healthier for you. These great eco-friendly gardening tips will help you to build a garden without doing any damage to the environment which is a big concern for a lot of people.

Wildflower Meadow

If growing food sounds a bit too intensive for you, you could make a wildflower meadow instead. All you have to do is let the grass grow out and sprinkle the seeds in. They’re fairly low maintenance flowers to grow and the effect is great. It’s not always the best idea to do the entire garden in this way because it can look a bit messy but you can section off a portion of the garden at the bottom to let run free and then keep the rest neat and tidy.

Collect Rainwater

If you want to save a bit of money and be a bit more eco-friendly at the same time, you could consider putting water tanks in the garden to collect rainwater. If you live in a wet area, you’ll easily be able to collect enough for the family to use. Even if you don’t live in a particularly rainy area, you’ll still save a bit of money on your water bills. Recycling the water is the most cost effective way to do it once you’ve got everything set up but the initial cost of putting a recycling system in place can be quite high.

Create An Entertainment Space

It’s easy to create an entertainment space in the garden, just put a patio in and get some nice garden furniture for people to sit in. When you’re positioning the patio, consider what other uses the garden has and make sure you don’t fill too much of the space. It might be worth getting an outdoor heater and some lighting as well if you plan to host guests in the evening. You can take it a step further and create an outdoor kitchen area with a BBQ and a small covered area for preparing food. It’s the ideal place to host guests in the summer and have family meals in the evening when the weather is warm enough.

Deciding what to do with a large garden can be tough but if you use some of these ideas, you can get plenty of use out of it.
