Family Fun Open Day @ NSW Parliament House – 4th October 10am-3pm – This is a rare opportunity to take the kids to NSW Parliament. There will be an amazing range of activities such as children’s trail, craft, mystery object guessing competition, roving historical characters. You get to visit the Legislative Chambers, media room and roof-top garden. All ages.
International Fleet Review @ Sydney Harbour – 3rd – 11th October – Be part of the celebrations to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy into Sydney Harbour. If you have someone in your family, big or small, who loves ships then this is for them. There will be tall ships and war ships and parades and fireworks. There are even events in Parramatta & Mosman so check out their website as there is a multitude of events to keep you busy. Best part is most are absolutely free. All ages.
Contemporary Kids – Stray Threads @ Museum of Contemporary Art – 24-29th September 10.30am-4pm – Based on their current woven fibre-based exhibition, String Theory: Focus on contemporary Australian art, you’ll need to prepare and bring in plastic bags and recyclable materials before you join in this hands on artistic craft experience, including a giant woven wall of art. (This activity is Free but a donation of $5 per family is appreciated) Ages 4+
Sunday Family Fun Day @ Museum of Contemporary Art – 29th September 10.30am-4pm. Explore the MCA with the whole family. Pick up a gallery explorer from level 3 then collect clues and get stamps while exploring this modern gallery. A great chance for the kids to get excited about art. Don’t forget to leave time for the art-making activities at the end. Ages 4+
Big Air School @ The Entertainment Quarter – 23-27th September 10am-3pm – Watch stunt shows by some of Australia’s best action sport athletes, listen to live DJ music, get involved in trick competitions, and join in the fun at the workshops. Hire equipment or bring your own but remember you must wear a helmet. Ages 5-15
Family Fun Days @ Riverside Parramatta – 24th – 28th September 10am-2pm . Experience some fantastic live theatre and get the chance to explore, create and play in the free indoor playground and activities. There will be face painting, balloon sculpture, a unique underwater video installation and a fab disco dance party so there is sure to be something for everyone. All ages.
Creative Play @ Sydney Opera House (Western Foyer) – 21st September – 7th October 10am-4pm. Imagine, create, explore and play with fun craft activities. This school holidays, make sure you check out the interactive art installation, inspired by The 13-Story Treehouse (A play at the Opera House). There will be two professional illustrators on hand to captivate the kids. Ages 3+
Super Simple Illustration @ State Library of NSW – 30th September 10-11.30am. Get tips on how to draw from the expert. This drawing workshop is hosted by Peter Carnavas. His latest book, The Children Who Loved Books, is a moving celebration of books and the ways in which they bring us together. Bookings essential. Ages: 6-10.

Sydney Youth Stamp Group Workshop @ Philatelic Assoc. of NSW – 3rd October 10am – 3pm. If you have a child who loves collecting stamps, or you think might have an interest, check out this workshop. Community Fishing Program @ Penrith Lakes – Tuesdays 9am-5pm. Join Fishcare volunteers for shore-based fishing. Bring your own barbless hooks, bait and bucket. Kids under 16 require adult supervision.
