The Melbourne Cup is this tuesday and for many of us, it means hosting a small, or large, gathering with the girls to watch the Big Race.
If you are the one organising the luncheon then you might be a little more worried about what to serve than you are about what to wear.
I’ve looked through our great recipe bank here at 17 Bright Ideas and found a few recipes that might help to take the stress off the day and help you to enjoy it:
Thai Curried Eggs – What would a Melbourne cup lunch menu be without eggs? You can make this recipe ahead of time and they look very pretty in spoons, which also makes them easy for your guests to eat.
Simmone’s Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls – This is a great finger food idea that will have your guests lining up for more. My tip would be practice rolling these before you attempt the real thing. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to make quite a few for the big day.
Tomato Bruschetta – This is one of my favourite dishes when I have a crowd coming to my house. It’s simple to make and tastes better when you make it ahead of time ,which makes it perfect for your Melbourne Cup lunch menu. Just remember to cut the bread into easy to handle pieces, as no one wants tomato down their dress.
Pink Grapefruit Lemonade – Your Melbourne Cup lunch menu needs a drink and this is a delicious idea the ladies will love. Who said pink lemonade was just for kids? Serve it chilled and in tall champagne flutes. It’s a terrific drink option for mums who need to pick up the kids straight after the big race.
Avocado and Chocolate Mousse – To end the party, you need something sweet. I found it particularly hard to pick just one recipe from all the delicious sweet treats we have in our Over 17 Minutes recipe pages (so take a look to find something else to add to your Melbourne Cup lunch menu) but why not try the Avocado and Chocolate Mousse, which has been one of our most popular recipes. Serve the mousse in pretty crystal bowls and serve with berries. Yum.
Let us know how the big day goes and if you back a winner! We’d love to see any photos of your Melbourne Cup luncheon so don’t forget to post on our Facebook Page.
Until next time,
