GET BEHIND WORKPLACE MENTAL HEALTH WITH YOUR MONDAY FACE
Martin College supports charities with #MondayPerson ‘selfie’ initiative
Sydney: Martin will be donating up to $25,000 to Beyond Blue to help raise awareness of depression, stress and anxiety in the workplace. Martin ambassadors and volunteers were present at CBD locations across Sydney last Monday, 1 December to encourage members of the public to take a ‘selfie’ and post to their preferred social media platform with the hashtags ‘#MondayPerson’ and ‘#MartinCollege’. For every ‘selfie’ uploaded and tagged, Martin is donating $1 to Beyond Blue, up to a total of $25,000. These initiatives are intended to remove the stigma around issues of workplace mental health.
“Our well-being is shaped by how satisfied (or dissatisfied) we are with our lives,” says John Martin, Head of Martin College. “Many students come to Martin so they can improve their lives: to be something different and to create a new career for themselves.”
A recent survey commissioned by CMyPeople, a division of HR consulting and recruitment company, Chandler Macleod, has shown that nearly 2.2 million working Australians are unhappy in their current professions. Their research revealed that “an astonishing 53% of Australian workers did not plan their careers but fell into them, which may go some way to explaining the high levels of dissatisfaction.”
While many symptoms of depression and anxiety can be debilitating, very few people experiencing these conditions seek help. Through their #MondayPerson initiatives, Martin hopes to not only raise awareness, but also to encourage people to take charge of their career and future happiness. The flexible online and on-campus study options make it easier than ever to obtain a career-changing qualification in as little as twelve months. Martin wants to put individuals on the path to a career they are passionate about; one that they can’t wait to get to each morning – even on Mondays!
