What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag

What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag

I decided to write this blog about “What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag” mostly to help me but I thought I might let you all in on these bright ideas too!

Now, I am assuming that you are much like me. You see a bag, it looks “amazing” and you buy it! No doubt you have a few bags in your wardrobe. The good ones you keep for ever and the not so good ones are tossed out every so often. How many of those bags have you actually Loved To Use?

I Purchased a very pretty pink ‘everyday’ bag a few months ago. I just loved the colour but I realise now I should have thought about a few things before I passed over my credit card because as pretty as it is, it annoys me every day I take it with my. It gets in the way of my pram wheels, it’s clasp is constantly opening at the worst possible times and it has a coast and a zip which make it time consuming to get into when I pay for my groceries.

So, I thought I should start to thing about What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag for everyday use, so that next time I go shopping, I find the perfect bag that is functional as well as gorgeous.

My #1 point of What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag is THINK ABOUT STRAPS:

– I typically leave my bag on the back of my sons pram but the straps are too long and the bag gets black marks from the wheels.

Consider: How many straps do you want? Are the straps adjustable? How long do you need them to be? Do you want the bag over your shoulder, across your shoulder to hip? Will you keep the bag on the back of a pram and will it drag on the wheel?

Take a look this cool bag from Kate Hill – This bag has a over the arm strap as well as a longer shoulder strap that is adjustable of it covers a variety of lengths and ways to carry the bag.

My #2 point for What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag is THINK ABOUT THE INSIDE:

-I like to have lots of compartments so I can separate my things from the ‘kids stuff’ I inevitably end up with.

Consider:  How big you need the bag to be? What will you be carrying in it? How many compartments does it have? What colour is the lining? Can you zip up the things inside? I know that many times my bag has been tipped upside down in the middle of a shopping centre.

This is a very cute bag from Kaboo – Here is a bag with great compartments and very cute lining inside. The type of bag that could be hard to lose things in.

My #3 point for What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag is THINK ABOUT THE CLOSURE:

– As I mentioned before, my current bag has 2 closures, a zip then a flap over the top with a clasp. I find this very difficult to open and close with one hand (as you often need to do when you are a mum).

Consider: How you open and close you bag? Are you juggling kids? Is it on the back of a pram? Do you want it to be hard to open so your kids have less access.

Check out this great bag from Nine West – This bag has a nice wide zip on the top of the bag (and some serious pockets on the side to keep keys and phone).

My #4 point for What Mums Need To Consider When Buying A Handbag is THINK ABOUT THE COLOUR/PATTERN:

– You need to think about colour at some point! I love a bright handbag to not only cheer me up but to help me to find it when its somewhere around the house. Pink is easy to find.

Consider: What clothes you have in your wardrobe, will it go with at least some of them? Will the colour get dirty quickly? Will the colour/pattern hide mess? Do you like the colour? Will it date quickly?

This is a terrific bag that could tick all your boxes from Etrusco Donna – A bag that is a dark yet popping colour that looks like it will wipe clean – love it!

Until next time,

Vic
